Winona Lakes Ranch's Tifton 85 is getting noticed!  Read all about our our facilities and hay products in a recent article published by Progressive Forage.  Click here to be directed to the article.

Winona Lakes Ranch is located just a few miles outside the city limits of Tyler, Texas in the rustic little town of Winona.  The ranch encompasses 1125 acres of land  as diverse and interesting as the State of Texas itself, and includes towering  pine forests, red clay boulders, rolling meadows and pastures, and 400 foot elevation changes that produce forever views in every direction.  A powerful network of underground springs creates deep clear lakes and several year round creeks that support an amazing diversity of wildlife.  Four deep wells, two on the north side of the ranch and two on the south, help sustain our agricultural operations in dry seasons.  Miles of underground irrigation lines carry water to hayfields, blueberry and blackberry orchards and all cattle waterers across the ranch.

We are a working ranch, with 200 acres of Tifton 85 hayfields producing the finest premium quality horse hay available, and a Texas longhorn operation built to produce world class horn and color.  In addition to premium Tifton 85 hay and longhorns, we recently added blueberry and blackberry production to our agricultural mix.

The south part of the ranch is home to the main house complex, which includes our home, a guest cottage, the ranch office, one tennis court and locker facility, three horse barns, our main equipment barn, and a hay storage barn.   Two spring-fed lakes stretch across the south entrance, as well as a 60’ deep irrigation lake, which provides water in dry seasons to our scenic Catalina hay meadow.

The north end of the ranch is home to Winona Lakes Lodge and a 325 acre high fenced wildlife preserve containing zebra, donkras (a donkey/zebra cross), rams, elk and red stag, as well as fallow, axis and white tail deer.  Elk Lake, a beautiful split basin spring fed reservoir, provides irrigation and beauty to the north side operation.

The west end of the ranch is separated from the north and south sections by Harris Creek, a powerful year round creek that joins Simpson Creek  near the middle of the ranch and then flows into the Sabine River.  Working pens for cattle and a historic barn, currently undergoing restoration, are the only structures on the west side, where the ranch touches Main Street in the town of Winona.  A year round crystal clear spring has created a small pond and will be routed into a much larger basin in the future.

Because of the abundance of springs producing pure, clear water, we are conducting feasibility and cost studies for producing and bottling spring water under our own label.  Our best producing spring is located on the north part of the ranch and now flows into the lower basin of Elk Lake.  That spring alone, producing about 50 gallons a minute, will support a bottling operation, and it is our first priority in harnessing the water production capabilities across the ranch.
